Title: Unconventional superconductivity under high pressure | 高压下非常规超导体研究

Time: 10:30 - 11:30 AM, Friday, January 6, 2017

Place: Conference room C206, HPSTAR (Beijing)

Host: Dr. Yang Ding

Abstract

One of the common features of unconventional superconducting systems such as the heavy fermion, high-Tc cuprates and iron-pnictide superconductors is that the superconductivity emerges on the border of long-range antiferromagnetic ally ordered state. In addition to doping charge carriers, the application of hydrostatic pressure provides an effective and clean means for searching novel classes of unconventional superconductors near the magnetic quantum critical point. In this talk, I will give a brief introduction to the cubic anvil cell technique for high-pressure and low-temperature measurements and then present our recent progress in studying the unconventional superconductivity by using the high-pressure approach, including: (1) the first observation of superconductivity in CrAs and MnP near their pressure-induced helimagnetic quantum critical point [1, 2], and (2) the establishment of the comprehensive T-P phase diagram of FeSe sing crystal illustrating the competing nature of nematicity, antiferromagnetic order, and superconductivity [3]

Biography of the Speaker:

Prof. Jinguang Cheng, at Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IOP, CAS). He obtained his B.S. and M.S. in physics from Harbin Institute of Technology in 2003 and 2005, and Ph.D. in Materials Science from University of Texas at Austin (UTA) in 2010. Following two-year postdoctoral research at UTA, he spent another two years as a JSPS fellow at Institute for Solid State Physics, University of Tokyo. He joined IOP in 2014 and became the ground leader of EX6 in the Laboratory of Extreme Conditions Physics since then. His current research interest focuses on the exploration of emergent electronic materials and physical phenomena under high-pressure extreme conditions. He has published over 120 peer-reviewed journal papers and recently received the Sir Martin Wood China Prize.
