Prof. Wendy Mao visits HPSATR

Wendy Li-Wen  Mao, an associate professor of geological sciences at Stanford and of photon science at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, is visiting HPSTAR from May 01 to June 30, 2016. She is also CDAC partner, EFree Partner, and DCO Science adivisory Committee member.

Mao's research interests are: High-Pressure Geophysics, Geochemistry, and Petrology; Volatiles in Planetary Systems and Hydrogen Storage Applications; Experimental Mineral Physics.

Mao has made outstanding achievements in an exceptionally broad range of topics in her early career, from the structure of graphite under pressure, to the properties of iron-rich materials at the boundary between the Earth’s core and mantle, to the synthesis and characterization of a new family of hydrogen storage materials based on molecular compounds.

Recently, she has made several breakthrough discoveries in geoscience using the state-of-the-arts techniques like Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS) X-ray laser to track the phase transition path of silica during dynamic process.
