Prof. Daniil Khomskii visited HPSTAR

Invited by HPSTAR scientist Dr. Wenge Yang,  Prof. Daniil Khomskii of II. Physikalisches Institut, Universitaet zu Koeln, Germany, visited HPSTAR on Nov.1, 2016.

Prof. Daniil Khomskii delivered a talk about strongly correlated systems with strongly correlated electrons displaying unusual (often technologically useful) electronic and magnetic properties, such as metal-insulator transitions, half-metallicity, and spin-charge separation.

"Pressure, as an external facotor is  in particular  very useful tool for varing the properties of the strongly correlated systems", said Prof. Daniil. In this talk he gave a general overview of several phenomena in systems with correlated electrons, mostly transition metal compounds, which can be strongly modified by pressure. Then he delivered several related topics including magnetic and orbital ordering, charge ordering and spontaneous charge disproportionation, spin-state transitions,  and insulator-metal transitions.
