HPSTAR's Fei Zhang received Excellent Poster Award at 26th AIRAPT international conference
August 23, 2017, joint PhD student Fei Zhang from HPSTAR received an Excellent Poster Award at the 26th AIRAPT international conference in Beijing. Fei showed his latest research on phase transions in high entropy alloys in the conference.
High entropy alloys (HEAs) consistingof four or more elements mixed in a single solid solution with equal fractionsemerge recently as a new research frontier in materials science. HEAs possess exceptionalmechanical, physical and chemical properties due to their unique atomicstructure. Their simple closely packed atomic structure is believed to be verystable, and no polymorphic transition was observed during heating fromcryogenic temperature to melting points.
By employing in situhigh-pressure synchrotron radiation X-ray diffraction, Fei et al., revealed an irreversibletransition from face-centred-cubic (fcc) structure to hexagonal close- packing(hcp) structure in the prototype CoCrFeMnNi high-entropy alloy.
The 26th International Conference on High Pressure Science and Technology (AIRAPT 26) was held in Beijing from August 19 to August 24, 2017. The International Association for the Advancement of High Pressure Science and Technology (AIRAPT) has been meeting once every two years since 1955. Originating in the seminal findings of Prof. P.W. Bridgman, high pressure science has taken an increasingly important role in a wide range of fields such as physics, chemistry, materials science, earth & planetary science, natural resources & the environment, energy, biology, food science, etc. leading to new forefronts of interdisciplinary research that provide new knowledge of nature as well as driving sustainable development of our society.
