Sept. 20, 2019, invited by HPSTAR director Dr. Ho-Kwang Mao, Nature editors Drs. Rebecca Neely and Graham Simpkins visited HPSTAR Shanghai.
Firstly, Dr. Graham Simpkins, chief editor of Nature Reviews Earth & Environment delivered talks on the editorial process at Nature Research journals. He talked about what makes a Nature paper or a research journal paper and the editorial process for primary research content. Then he gave an introduction to the new journal Nature Reviews Earth and Environment.
Dr. Rebecca Neely, an editor of Nature Geoscience, also gave a talk on the editorial process, which is special for the journal of Nature Geoscience. “Only ~20% papers would be sent to review and about ~7% papers got acceptance,” Dr. Neely said. She also talked about the common reasons for initial reject by editors how they made final decisions.
Finally, the two editors had deep discussions with geoscientists of HPSTAR.
