    Dr. Yingqi Wang is a posdoc at HPSTAR Shanghai working in the group of Dr Wenge Yang. She received her Ph.D. in material science and engineering from Peking University in July 2016. Her current interest is structural transformation and properties of the materials under high pressure.

    Boyuan Ning joined HPSTAR as a postdoc fellow in Dr. Tsu-Chien Weng's group from Fudan Universty in September 2016. His research interest concentrates on developing theoretical approaches towards many-body statistical physics, in order to understand and predict the complex phase diagrams and peculiar behaviors of bulk materials under extreme conditions.​

    Yongmoon Lee received his Ph.D in Geological science from Yonsei University, Korea in 2016. He joined Prof. Yongjae Lee's group as a postdoc fellow in this September. His research interest is synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction study on gas storage and trap into porous minerals under moderate pressure and temperature.

    Miao Zhang is a postdoctoral fellow supervisors Prof. John S Tse (primary) and Jiuhua Chen (secondary). She joined in HPSTAR in September, 2016. Her research interest is focusing on the rational computational design of novel functional materials based on density functional theory, theoretical investigation of physical and chemical properties of materials under extreme conditions, as well as the prediction of material behavior.

    Dr Jack Binns is a postdoctoral fellow at HPSTAR Shanghai working for Dr Ross Howie. He received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from The University of Edinburgh in May 2016 for work developing high-pressure single-crystal neutron diffraction. His current interest is the application of diffraction techniques to the study of molecular materials at high pressures.

    Dr. Bijuan Chen received PhD degree incondensed matter physics from Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy ofSciences, China, in June 2016 under the supervision of Prof. Changqing Jin, andobtained her bachelor’s degree in 2011 at Sichuan University. Her research interests mainly focus on the studies of mixed valent behaviors, exoticmagnetism, quantum phase transition and superconductivity in f electron materials under extreme pressures using X-ray spectroscopy and neutron scattering.

    Dr. Nilesh Salke joined HPSTAR Laboratory of Shanghai as a postdoctoral researcher in Prof. Afu Lin’s group. He has received Ph.D. in physics from Bhabha Atomic Research centre, Mumbai in 2016. Dr. Nilesh Salke is interested in condensed matter physics at high pressure and temperatures using diamond anvil cell (DAC). His current research work is focused on hydride superconductivity, topological insulators, 2D materials etc.

  • Jianbo Zhang

    Dr. Jianbo Zhang was a Ph.D student supervised by Prof. Xiaojia Chen from Department of Materials Physics and chemistry at South China University of Technology in Guangzhou, China, and obtained his Ph.D degree recently. During Sept. 2012-Aug. 2014, Jianbo was awarded as an Excellent Predoctoral Associate to work at High Pressure Synergetic Center (HPSynC) locating at Argonne National Laboratory. His research interest mainly focuses on studying the pressure- induced high-temperature-superconductivity in cuprates by using x-ray diffraction, Raman scattering, magnetic susceptibility, and electric transport measurements.

    Bo Gao is a postdoctoral associate working with Dr. Hong Xiao. He is currently working on the study of unconventional superconductivity under high pressure as well as low temperature and high magnetic field conditions. His research interests also include the growth of epitaxial films and novel superconductors. Previously, Bo Gao was an assistant professor at Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology (SIMIT), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), after receiving his Ph. D from Shanghai University, China.

    Jianwei Meng is a postdoctoral fellow working with Tsu-Chien Weng, and he is working on the electrical and structural characteristics of ferroelectric materials and thin films under extreme conditions. Dr. Jianwei Meng received his PH. D in Fudan University in 2015. In addition, he is also interested in the investigation of thin film growth mechanism.

    Youjun Zhang is a postdoc fellow at Shanghai HPSTAR, who is working with Afu Lin. Dr. Zhang mainly focuses on understanding the high pressure mineral physics of the Earth's interior, and the high pressure physics of condensed matter through directly experimental observations and examinations using some state-of-art diagnoses in extreme conditions. Usually he uses diamond anvil cell (DAC) and shock-wave technique to generate high pressure-temperature environments, combined with electrical and optical diagnostics, electron microscope, optical laser and synchrotron x-ray facilities (such as XRD and IXS).

    Dr. Sorb joins HPSTAR as a postdoctoral fellow. Dr. Sorb is interested in condensed matter physics under high pressure using synchrotron X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy and resistivity studies. His research work is focused on topological insulators, insulator to metal transitions, multiferroics, structural phase transition, lattice dynamics etc. He is also experienced in synthesis of materials under extreme conditions using Laser Heating Diamond Anvil cell (LHDAC). In HPSTAR, he will be working on topological insulators, multiferroics, magnetism, superconductivity, Mott insulators and charge density waves under extreme conditions under the supervision of Dr. Yang Ding.

    Raimundas Sereika joined Beijing HPSTAR as a postdoctoral associate and working wih Prof. Yang Ding. Dr. Raimundas Sereika received his Ph.D. in condensed matter physics from the Vilnius University of Lithuania in 2013. Since then he has worked as a post-doc and as a scientific researcher at the Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences. Dr. Sereika' s research is in the area of condensed matter and materials physics. His previous experiences include preparation and characterization of various semiconducting, ferroelectric materials. He is interested in theoretical modeling by using Density Functional Theory and experimental investigations of phase transitions, lattice dynamics, and electronic structure.

    Hongsheng Yuan joined HPSTAR as a postdoctoral fellow working with Li Zhang since July, 2015. He is working with Li Zhang on stability of Fe-bearing Al-rich hydrous silicates under lower mantle conditions. He utilizes high-pressure and high-temperature techniques in diamond anvil cells, coupling with sample characterization by FIB, SEM/TEM, Raman/IR and Mössbauer analysis. Additionally, he is interested in synthesis and characterization of new advanced materials by high-pressure and/or high-temperature approaches. He received his Ph.D. in Condensed Matter Physics from Jilin University in 2015.

    Xiaoxin Wu received her Ph.D. in condensed matter physics from Jilin University and then started her work in HPSTAR since July, 2015. She is a postdoctoral fellow working with Dr. Yanzhang Ma. Her focus is to study the energetic materials under high pressure and high temperature.

Yanyan is working with Dr. Yanzhang Ma on the behaviors of semiconducting nanomaterials and minerals at high pressure (DAC and rapid compression system) and high temperature (laser heating).

    Hongbo Lou joined HPSTAR in June 2015 from Zhejiang University. He is working with Dr. Qiaoshi Zeng on high pressure effects of metallic glasses. Main interests include the phase transition of metallic glasses, mechanical properties of metallic glasses under high pressure, structure-property relationship of metallic glasses, and the pressure effect on glass transition.

    Ruilian Tang received her Ph.D. in condenesed matter physics from Jilin University 2014. She is working with Jiuhua Chen since Jan. 2015. Her research interest is focused on physical properties of materials under high pressure and high temperature by using diamond anvil cell (such as structure, electrical and elasticity properties).

    Fei Han obtained his bachelor'sdegree in material physics from University of Science and Technology of Chinain 2007 and PhD degree in condensed matter physics from Institute of Physics,Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2012. Then he spent 3 years in Argonne National Laboratory for a postdoc training on solid state chemistry. In July 2015 Fei joined HPSTAR to learn high pressure techniques under the supervision of Dr. Wenge Yang. His research involves design and exploratory synthesis of new materials,ab initio structure solution withX-ray and neutron, crystal growth and characterization of strongly correlatedmaterials, and using diamond anvil cells to study strongly correlated materials.

    Qian Zhang joined HPSTAR from the State Key Laboratory of Metastable Materials Science and Technology in Yanshan University in Oct.2015. She is working with Wenge Yang as a postdoctoral fellow. Her previous experiences include synthesis in thermoelectric materials at HPHT and thermoelectric characterization. Her research focuses on study of in situ high pressure structure characterization and transport properties testing for thermoelectric materials with high performance, as well as the pressure induced structure phase transition in novel materials.

    Fang Hong joined the HPSTAR in early 2014. He takes interested in basic physics properties in electronic, optic and magnetic materials. By applying high pressure produced by DAC, new phases can be created and novel electronic properties appear. The most characterization methods used in his study are synchrotron X-ray techniques (diffraction, XAS), neutron scattering, Raman and infrared spectroscopy.

    Bing Li is a postdoc associate in HPSynC working with Dr. Ho-kwang Mao. He got his PhD degree at Jilin University in China. His research is mainly on phase transitions of elemental materials and metal hydrides under high pressures. He is also inteseted in novel diamond anvil cell techniques to pursuing higher static pressure.

    Gang Liu received his Ph.D. degree in Aeronautical and Astronautical Science and Technology from Harbin Institute of Technology, Harbin, China, in 2013. From Feb. 2011 to Oct. 2012, he worked in the Material Research Institute of The Pennsylvania State University as Visiting Scholar. He is now a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Center for High Pressure Science and Technology Advanced Research, Shanghai, China. His research interests are in the field of piezoelectric and ferroelectric single crystals and ceramics, as well as the response of other functional materials under various external stimuli.

    Qinglin Wang joined HPSTAR (Changchun) on April 1st, 2014 as a postdoctoral researcher. He works with Dr. Yanzhang Ma. His research focuses on the electrical transportation behavior (such as the conduction mechanism, the grain boundary effect, etc.) and phase transition of minerals under high pressure and shear, the relative techniques of rotational diamond anvil cell (RDAC).
