Welcome to the hcp Group!
High-pressure Chemistry in nanoPores
We intend to continue and explore an exciting and novel aspect in nanoscience: by using pressure as a thermodynamic variable we will alter the complex and technologically rewarding chemistry occurring within nanopores, channels and layers. Over the past decade, we have identified important scientific milestones in pressure-dependent nanopore chemistry. Nanopores occur in various compounds and minerals. By applying pressure, we will be able to alter and tailor their structures and chemistry hence render distinctive chemical selectivity, physical properties, and new insights into geochemical problems. Our group will rely on and improve the existing infrastructure at Pohang Accelerator Laboratory (PAL) in Korea and Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource (SSRL) in USA. The work by the hcp group at HPSTAR will also be closely interwoven with a continuing and evolving effort of the PI’s research program based at Yonsei University in Korea and continue to utilize existing domestic and international collaborations. This will be added to the HPSTAR network of research, and hence we are confident that the hcp group at HPSTAR will contribute to the understanding and exploration of the novel high-pressure chemistry within nanopores.
